100 Happy Days!

100 Happy Days!

As a psychology student, the idea of being intentional about your own happiness is an idea that makes a lot of sense.  In fact, we just spent class today talking about the definition of consciousness, and how attention is a huge part of that – as in purposefully shifting your attention toward or away from particular things in your environment. In practice, however, I’ll admit I’m quicker to gripe than give thanks on some days, especially when I’m overwhelmed (which of course just adds to the negative energy).

On another note, I haven’t posted here in a looong time.  To kill two birds with one stone, I thought I would jump on the #100happydays bandwagon – and post a least a little something here everyday! If you’re not familiar, the 100 Happy Days challenge is about submitting a picture every day for 100 days of something that made you happy.  It helps to shift your attention to those positive things in your world and allow those things to take on more meaning – which can only be a good thing!

So, here goes!  The first one is easy – the two pups in my life (mine and my BF’s, who I’m puppy sitting for the week/end) always make me happy.  They make excellent snuggle buddies.  🙂

Gotta Start Somewhere

Hello!  I’m Kathleen.  I live in Pittsburgh with two roommates and my dog, Tilly.

Pittsburgh from Mt. Washington

Tilly birthday

Tilly girl!

Now I’m moving to Houston for graduate school.

Downtown Houston

Tilly’s coming with me, but this will be the first time I’m living by myself.  I’m going to write about my experiences in a new city, and about the things I love to do. On the surface, it looks like I’ve got things pretty well figured out:  get into grad school, check.  Pack up everything I own and move to Texas, OK.  Get adjusted in a new place and make it my own, cool!  But life has a funny way of throwing a few curve balls, and it can often be Harder Than It Seems.  I’ll document the ups and downs of my new life, and do my best to explore and try new things when I’m not crazy busy with school.  It should be an exciting and entertaining journey!  Since everyone has to start somewhere, I thought I’d start by documenting my packing and moving process, and some things I’ve learned along the way, so look for a post on that soon.

P.S.  Look at the beautiful goodbye card I received made by my super talented coworker Flannery.  You know you’re off to a good start when you have so much support and friendship behind you, and this is a good representation of how awesome the people I know and love in Pittsburgh have been.  🙂
